I would say that despite preferring apple products, expressed by my ownership of a Macbook Pro, an iPhone and an iPad, I am not a fanboi. Inspite of the fact that my software is up to date and, that I make extensive use of the iTunes/App store, I donot place myself in that group of people that wax lyrical about the minutiae of the apple ecosystem.
I say this because I believe the term fanboi does a great injustice to the majority of people who enjoy and use apple products. The injustice done is in the implied assumption that we are all kids with no sense of what is good for us. Who unthinkingly follow like sheep.
I use the apple line of products because, I can afford it and, to use a much abused quote, "It works" and by working, I mean it gets out of my way so I can focus on life and not on it. This is what I believe many detractors donot appreciate. My daily job is not to use apple products. They are simply tools that I use to get through my working day and the job I am entrusted and paid for. If apple does not have the latest and best "must have", I am not too phased because the product as it stands serves me well and the incremental approach to its development, (Hardware and Software) suits me fine, because in my spare time of which there is little, I am comfortably able to keep up with developments. Furthermore, beyond being a nice to have, most of the latest and best "must haves" are often relegated to the "will use one day" pile by me anyway.
What I do appreciate is a brand that allows me to, without applying extensive time and effort, choose the product that is right for me, gives me confidence that I have a product that is on the cutting edge or at least close to it and a product that combined with the apps that I choose, adds value to my life by giving me more time to do the things that are important to me. Appealing to my sense of aesthetics, is a bonus. Simple as that.
